After my retirement from Motorola, I started a business setting up web based applications for local companies. Aside from having to do my own sales and billing, the process for doing contracts worth several thousand dollars for private clients is surprisingly similar to the process for doing multi-million dollar contracts for industry.

1. Meet with the client to capture requirements.
2. Submit and refine a proposed solution including a flat fee bid.
3. Sign a software development contract.
4. Design, code and test the software product.
5. Submit tested product for customer approval.
6. Track and resolve all change requests.
7. Port released code to client's server.
8. Continued support at a guaranteed hourly rate.

Typical delivered software includes PHP, HTML, CSS, SHTML, SQL, C++, Java or JavaScript code running on Linux / Apache servers using MySQL or Oracle databases.
